Using digital angle equipment along with laser measuring tools is no more than an updated version of taking a tape measure to map out the tops in a job. This method is very prone to errors, it often misses notches in tops and it often misses bows in walls. It is prone to transcription errors (wriiting down the wrong angle or the wrong measurement).

The reason most shops moved towards making physical templates is because there were so many errors in a simple measuring process.
